Product Selection

airVata Sleep is FDA-cleared for the treatment of obstructive sleep apnea and snoring, and features a 4-position titratable system for precise mandibular advancement. It is PDAC approved under code K1027 and prescribed for patients with diagnosed OSA.

airVata NG is a night guard designed for bruxism and TMJ management with a fixed mandibular support position. It is NOT FDA-cleared for sleep apnea and is only for patients with no known OSA. It is billable under dental insurance using code D7880.

Yes, airVata Sleep is an FDA-cleared device under 510(k) [add clearance number] for the treatment of obstructive sleep apnea and snoring.

airVata Sleep is indicated for patients with diagnosed obstructive sleep apnea with a prescription for oral appliance therapy from a physician, CPAP intolerance or preference for oral appliance, need for combination therapy with CPAP, and snoring with or without bruxism.

airVata NG is indicated for patients with clenching or grinding (bruxism), signs of tooth wear, muscle tenderness or facial pain, tension headaches, TMJ pain or discomfort, and no known OSA. We recommend screening patients for sleep disorders before prescribing airVata NG.

Research shows that traditional flat-plane night guards can worsen breathing in patients with undiagnosed sleep apnea. With 85% of OSA undiagnosed, screening protects patients from potential harm. We provide screening tools and training to all airVata providers.

Refer the patient to a sleep physician for evaluation and, if indicated, testing before prescribing a night guard. If diagnosed with OSA and prescribed oral appliance therapy, the patient needs airVata Sleep, not airVata NG.

Yes. airVata Sleep is combination therapy compatible. Many patients use it with CPAP to reduce required pressure, reduce symptoms not improved by CPAP, or need an alternative due to CPAP limitations.

Ordering & Workflow

A closed bite, MIP, is suitable for both airVata Sleep and airVata NG appliances. Unlike many appliances on the market, no special bite or equipment is required.

Yes. Digital scans are required; traditional alginate impressions are not accepted. Contact our lab at lab@airvata.com for specific file format requirements and submission details.

Registered providers will be provided a lab portal and instructions for connecting intraoral scanner solutions to the airVata lab.

Band sizes (Small/Medium/Large) accommodate different jaw anatomies and TMJ needs. Small is for patients with smaller jaw anatomy or minimal advancement needs. Medium is standard for most patients. Large is for patients with larger anatomy or those needing more TMJ support. If unsure, contact our clinical support team for guidance.

Contact us immediately at 888-427-7671. If we have your digital scans on file, remakes can often be fabricated without new records. Warranty and remake policies vary – please contact us for specific details.

Yes. Replacement bands for both airVata K and airVata NG can be ordered separately. Bands should be replaced when strength diminishes or every 3-6 months for optimal performance.

If you have the patient’s impressions or digital scans on file, we can fabricate a replacement without requiring the patient to return for new records. This is often faster and more convenient for both you and your patient.

Both airVata Sleep and airVata NG include a 5-year limited manufacturer’s warranty. This warranty covers manufacturing defects, including material fractures/cracks and broken hardware.

airVata is also one of the few appliances that offers a direct-to-patient manufacturer warranty option. When a patient registers their appliance directly with airVata, they can contact airVata for direct support and warranty claims—even if they move or change dental practices.

Not covered: normal wear and tear, accidental damage (including pet damage), loss/theft, or remakes due to dental changes. Bands are available for purchase as needed; each case includes [BANDS INCLUDED: ___] bands.

Clinical Use and Adjustment

We provide detailed fitting and delivery protocols during onboarding. Generally, verify fit and retention, confirm comfort and bite, demonstrate insertion and removal to the patient, provide patient instructions for use and care, and schedule follow-up appointments.

airVata K features a 4-position titration system. Start patients in Position 1 (neutral). If symptoms persist (snoring, fatigue), advance to Position 2 under your guidance. Further advancement to Positions 3 or 4 is based on symptom resolution and patient tolerance. Detailed titration protocols are provided with each appliance and during training.

Adjustments should be made under your guidance. Instruct patients when to advance positions based on symptom assessment and follow-up evaluations.

No. airVata NG has a fixed mandibular support position. It is not titratable like airVata K. However, the band length (S/M/L) is selected at the time of delivery based on patient anatomy and needs.

Some initial discomfort is normal during the first few days. Most patients adapt within 2-7 days. If discomfort persists, check for fit issues, pressure points, or bite interference. The appliance may need adjustment. Contact our clinical support team for troubleshooting guidance.

Common initial side effects include excessive salivation or dry mouth (typically resolves in a few days), temporary tooth or jaw soreness (may need adjustment if severe), and slight bite changes in the morning (usually temporary). If side effects persist, contact our clinical support team for guidance.

Patients should have stable periodontal health before starting oral appliance therapy. Mild to moderate controlled periodontal disease is generally acceptable. Severe active disease may compromise retention and should be addressed first. Some payers may flag severe periodontal disease as a coverage issue, so clear documentation is essential.

airVata does not provide an AM aligner. Use is at the treating dentist’s discretion; however, many dentists recommend a morning occlusal guide to help re-seat the bite each morning and minimize occlusal changes over time.

Yes. If you are treating patients for obstructive sleep apnea, it is best practice to have patients undergo a follow-up sleep study to confirm therapeutic effectiveness and for titration. The timing of the efficacy testing will vary depending on your sleep protocol, but it may require working with a physician.

With proper care, airVata appliances are highly durable and can last several years. Replacement bands should be changed when strength diminishes or every 3-6 months. Regular follow-up appointments allow you to monitor appliance condition and patient compliance.

If symptoms return, reassess the appliance for wear or damage, verify that the patient is wearing it consistently, and check whether an adjustment is needed. It is possible that the patient requires a multidisciplinary approach and that oral appliance therapy alone won’t completely reduce all of patients sympotoms.

Yes. airVata appliances can accommodate crowns, bridges, veneers, and implants. Evaluate each patient’s dentition to ensure adequate retention.

airVata NG (TMD/bruxism): airVata NG is intended for TMJ/TMD support and bruxism management. Patients with severe or actively flaring TMJ symptoms (significant pain, locking, limited opening) should be evaluated carefully and monitored; band length/fit can be adjusted to improve tolerance.

airVata Sleep (OSA/Snoring): TMJ/TMD is not automatically a contraindication, but severe/active TMJ pathology should be assessed before starting, and titration should be conservative. Some payers may flag severe TMD/limited jaw range of motion as a coverage issue, so clear documentation is essential.

Patient Education & Compliance

We provide patient instructions for use and care, cleaning and maintenance guidelines, sleep screening questionnaires, insurance and billing information, and troubleshooting guides.

Patients should clean the appliance daily with a soft toothbrush and mild, non-abrasive soap, rinse thoroughly with cool water (never hot water), store it in the provided hard, vented case when not in use, and keep it away from heat sources, direct sunlight, and pets.

Set clear expectations about the adjustment period, schedule follow-up appointments to address concerns early, provide written instructions and contact information, educate patients about the health consequences of untreated OSA or bruxism, and ensure proper fit and comfort from the start.

First, identify the specific issue (discomfort, gagging, TMJ pain, difficulty breathing). Many tolerance issues can be resolved with adjustments or gradual acclimation. Contact our clinical support team for troubleshooting assistance. If the patient truly cannot tolerate oral appliance therapy, discuss alternative treatment options and involve their physician if sleep-related issues are present.

Practice Integration

We provide practice integration support, including workflow templates, staff training resources, patient screening protocols, treatment consent forms, and insurance verification checklists. Many practices designate a team member as the “sleep coordinator” to manage oral appliance cases.

Your trained staff members can submit cases on your behalf once they’re familiar with the process. We recommend designating specific team members to handle oral appliance cases for consistency.

Be upfront about insurance coverage and out-of-pocket costs. Explain the health benefits and long-term value. Many practices offer payment plans. We can provide supporting documentation for insurance pre-authorization.

Yes. Oral appliance therapy often involves collaboration with sleep physicians, ENTs, orthodontists, and other specialists. We encourage team-based, multi-disciplinary care for optimal patient outcomes.

Technical & Product Details

airVata appliances are made from medical-grade biocompatible surgical nylon using precision 3D printing. The material is BPA-free, latex-free, and phthalate-free, ensuring patient safety and comfort.

Surgical nylon offers several advantages, including superior biocompatibility, excellent durability and retention, lighter weight for patient comfort, and precision 3D printing capability. Our proprietary retention design solves the retention challenges historically associated with nylon appliances.

The 4-position system in airVata K allows precise mandibular advancement across four distinct positions using a simple connector mechanism. This eliminates the need for specialized titration equipment or complex adjustment procedures. Patients and providers can easily advance positions as needed for optimal therapeutic effect.

Traditional flat-plane night guards create a sloped surface that allows the jaw to slide backward during sleep, potentially restricting the airway. airVata NG features mandibular support bands that maintain forward jaw position, preventing posterior slide and maintaining healthy airway space while protecting teeth.

Our proprietary retention design uses custom-engineered 3D-printed surgical nylon that solves the retention challenges common with traditional nylon appliances. The precision fit and durable material ensure the appliance stays securely in place throughout the night.

Minor repairs may be possible depending on the damage. Contact our lab to discuss specific situations. In many cases, replacement is more practical than repair.

Clinical Scenarios

Immediately refer the patient for sleep evaluation and discontinue use of airVata NG until sleep disorders are ruled out or diagnosed. If diagnosed with OSA and prescribed oral appliance therapy, transition the patient to airVata Sleep.

Yes. airVataSleep is an excellent option for CPAP-intolerant patients with diagnosed OSA. Ensure you have a physician’s prescription for oral appliance therapy and appropriate documentation.

Explain that screening protects their health and is standard of care. It is at the prpoviders discretion whether to proceed with the airVate NG. The severity of symptoms should be taken into consideration. Without ruling out sleep disorders, you cannot guarantee that the night guard will not exacerbate their airway issues.

airVata Sleep can be used for severe OSA in specific situations, typically when CPAP is not tolerated or as combination therapy with CPAP. This requires physician oversight and follow-up sleep studies to confirm effectiveness.

Schedule a follow-up appointment to assess fit and retention, evaluate whether a titration adjustment is needed, verify that the patient is wearing it consistently and properly, and consider ordering a follow-up sleep study if symptoms persist. Snoring alone doesn’t always correlate with AHI, so objective testing is important. Alternative or additional treatment options may be necessary, and it’s always recommended to take a multi-disciplinary approach.

Regulatory & Compliance

airVata Sleep is FDA-cleared under 510(k) [add number] for the treatment of obstructive sleep apnea and snoring. It is PDAC approved for billing code K1027. E0486 approval is pending. airVata NG is not FDA-cleared for sleep apnea treatment and is intended only for bruxism and TMD management.

If airVata Sleep is being ordered for the medical treatment of diagnosed obstructive sleep apnea, then yes, a physician’s prescription is necessary. It should specify oral appliance therapy for OSA. If you are using the airVata Sleep off-label or for the treatment of snoring, no prescription is required, but the device is not eligible for medical insurance reimbursement.

No. airVata NG is a dental appliance for bruxism and TMD and does not require a physician’s prescription.
